PRESS RELEASE – SPRING/SUMMER 2013

Molo personalises its print universe with the ’Molo Art’ project

At Molo we are wild about prints because they give character to little personalities. As Noemi Dalby and Christel Russell, two of molo’s designers, say in unison, “A print is something that a child can easily relate to and fall in love with. Often, it’s the T-shirt with the car or the cat that’s the favourite item in a child’s closet.” This is why molo works with a wide range of illustrators and graphic designers - both nationally and internationally. This cooperation is especially obvious in the ‘molo art’ project for the spring/summer collection 2013, where seven hand-picked illustrators and graphic artists have signed the neck of the T-shirts for which they have created a print.

The ‘molo art’ team and its prints range from Stina Persson’s funky zebra to Sarah Beetson’s wonderful rollerskating legs in sparkly colours. Stina Persson is one of Sweden’s most talented fashion illustrators, and Sarah Beetson, who is British born but based in Australia, can brag about having exhibited her illustrations all over the world and has made store decorations for one of Stella McCartney’s boutiques. The team also includes the Danish graffiti artist who goes by the name of ‘Toys,’ and who is a part of the first wave of graffiti artists in Denmark. ‘Toys’ has interpreted molo’s iconic star. The ‘molo art’ project isn’t just for famous names, though, since molo wants to empower young talent; the artist couple Rack&Nais is a good example of this because their partnership with molo started already back when they both went to Denmark’s Design School.

It’s a good idea, then, to keep an eye on the necks of the selected ‘Molo Art’ T-shirts for spring and summer 2013, so your child can see who drew on their T-shirt.

Short bio of a selection of the ‘Molo Art’ illustrators:

Sarah Beetson: British artist and illustrator based in Australia. Worked within fashion, illustration and design and has been documented in a wealth of books. At an early stage in her career she also decorated the walls of the shoe room of one of Stella McCartney’s shops. She is now established as a freelance artist and illustrator, exhibiting work in London, Paris, NY and Australia with an extensive client list.

Toys: Among the first wave of Danish graffiti painters. Toys is a well-known tag in the Danish graffiti world and his abilities have taken him far to illustrating music covers, colouring books and illustration in general.

Stina Persson: Illustrator, based in Stockholm and one of Sweden’s most well-known fashion illustrators. Besides Stockholm she has got agents representing her in Tokyo and New York. Her client portfolio is impressive and among others you find Coca Cola, Blue Note Records, Sony Music, Bloomingdale’s. The list of editorial clients includes Harper’s Bazaar, Elle UK, Nylon Magazine, Marie Claire etc.

Rack&Nais: The young and talented. A Danish couple by the name of Sarah and Nick that we spotted while they were still students at the Danish School of Design. They often work together on the same artwork and have a cool and edgy approach to illustration.
